Teaching Geography: Making Students More Interested

By: Cheriel Cometa

Geography is broad area of study but the topics included here were very interesting.
But for those students who do not have their interest in Geography, we as teacher should always keep them involved in the class as much as possible. We should set activities that really require students’ active involvement. We should teach them to love what they are doing, be more involved and have the desire to explore new ideas.
I have list of some ways that will able the students to be more engaged in the learning process.
First, is the hands-on activity such as experimentation and projects. Using this will let the students to have not just of a mastery of the topic but rather a clear understanding of what has been taught. Learning by doing is one of the best ways to learn because most students feel that they are assuming responsibilities.
Second, consider the students diversity or differences, as teachers, diversity should always be considered in every part of the teaching learning process. Make sure that their special abilities were valued by the teacher. From this, considering the students diversity or differences will make them more engaged in the teaching learning process.
The third one is because most of the students thought that geography was not a good subject, it is a challenged for the teacher to make them believe that they can. Make the learning fun with full of learnings. We can see how effective the teacher is.
